2011 ANZIA winners announced

Posted by Paul Szyndler on 20 October 2011

On Monday night, auDA and InternetNZ proudly hosted a gala dinner to announce the winners of the 2011 Australia and NZ Internet Awards.
110 guests attended the event and the makeup of the audience was as diverse as the field of entries we received. Along with numerous Internet industry stakeholders and media, we were very glad to have a large number of ANZIA applicants present to share their experiences and celebrate their collective achievements.

The night was capably hosted by Master of Ceremonies, Alan Brough, who did a great job making sure that the evening flowed smoothly, provided many laughs, and also expertly navigated the acronym soup and technical descriptions the Internet industry is so fond of.

The night also featured speeches from auDA CEO, Chris Disspain and InternetNZ President, Frank March and was highlighted by a wonderful keynote presentation from The Hon Michael Kirby.
In addition to sharing a number of entertaining stories drawn from his vast legal experience, Mr Kirby also noted the importance of the Internet to Australia and New Zealand’s cultural, economic and social development and emphasised the need to keep this important resource open, accessible, diverse and uncapturable.

Overall, thirteen initiatives were acknowledged on the night – eight Highly Commended entries and five deserving winners.
The process of determining the entries that should receive these awards fell to a dedicated trans-Tasman team of 12 independent experts and both auDA and InternetNZ offer heartfelt thanks to the judges for their commitment, time, and expertise.

The initiatives recognised on the night were:

Information:
Winner: Australian Lions Drug Awareness Foundation “Tune In Not Out”

Receipts.

As Chris Disspain noted on Monday night, it is the participation, hard work and cooperation of all of the entrants that make the ANZIAs a relevant and worthwhile initiative.
Congratulations to the winners and thank you to everyone who entered.

Both the night and the entire 2011 ANZIA campaign were a tremendous success, with the initiative attracting more than twice the entries received in 2010.
We look forward to building upon this momentum in 2012 and have commenced a process of review and improvement to make sure that we deliver!

See you all next year!
