auDA appoints Westlake Consulting to conduct Review into Governance of .au

Posted by on 7 April 2011

The auDA Board has appointed New Zealand-based company Westlake Consulting Ltd (WCL) to undertake a review into aspects of the governance arrangements for Australia’s ‘.au’ Internet domain.

The Board decided in December 2010 to undertake the review, in acknowledgment that .au is an important element of Australia’s Internet infrastructure and that it is appropriate to periodically consider possible refinements in order to ensure auDA’s ongoing transparency, effectiveness and accountability.

WCL was selected following an open EoI process.

WCL is a governance advisory firm which works internationally and has undertaken reviews of a number of ICANN Advisory Committees, InternetNZ (the .nz domain administrator), as well as for a number of New Zealand Government agencies and NGOs. The WCL team will be led by Richard Westlake (Managing Director) and Vaughan Renner and has engaged former ICANN CEO and President, Dr Paul Twomey, to provide additional input and expertise.

Under the oversight of a small steering committee, WCL will:

  • review current information resources regarding the operation of .au;
  • interview stakeholders;
  • analyse the gathered information; and
  • deliver a final report to the auDA Board.

auDA will publish WCL’s final report, recommendations and the auDA Board’s response.
