Melbourne 22 October 2001 - auDA today released its Request for Tenders for Provision of Domain Name Services (RFT) for the following .au second level domains;

  • com.au
  • net.au
  • asn.au
  • org.au
  • id.au
  • gov.au
  • edu.au

The closing time for tenders is 2.00 pm on Monday 12th November 2001. See http://www.auda.org.au/rft for more information.

This RFT is the result of the June 2001 Report of auDA's Competition Model Advisory Panel which recommended that the provision of registry services should be put out to open competitive tender to allow access to world-class expertise to achieve the best possible service delivery.

auDA CEO, Chris Disspain, said, "This is the first step in the formal process of introducing competition into the .au Domain space and will benefit consumers and industry alike ensuring a better quality of service at a lower price."

Registry Tenders will be evaluated by an independent evaluation committee and auDA expects to announce the outcomes in late November.

auDA will shortly issue a Request for Expressions of Interest for Registrars to participate in the test bed process to commence once the Registry tenders have been awarded.
