.au Domain Administration (auDA) to open Board meeting to the public

Internet users interested in the future of the Australian Internet will be able to attend auDA's first public Board meeting

August 3, 2006: auDA's first public Board meeting will follow a milestone EGM which is set to change the structure of auDA's membership classes and elected Board members according to the CEO of auDA, Chris Disspain.

The EGM and the Board meeting will be held in Melbourne on Monday August 14 at the offices of Maddocks Solicitors, Level 6, 140 William St, Melbourne. The EGM will start at 11.00 am and be followed immediately by the Board meeting.

Mr Disspain said the open Board meeting will give any interested member of the internet-using public the opportunity to see how the Board of Australia’s Domain Name Regulator operates.

“We are excited to be able to give anyone interested in the future of the Australian Internet an insight into how the .au domain name system’s self-regulatory process is carried out and strongly encourage those interested to attend,” he said.

“The Board meeting will also serve to highlight auDA's ongoing commitment to openness and consultation with Australian Internet users – after all, the Internet does ultimately belong to them.”

Mr Disspain said one of the first items on the agenda will be a discussion of the EGM results.

Constitutional amendments to be considered by voters at the EGM include changes to auDA membership classes by abolishing Representative Association class, an increase in the number of independent directors to be elected to the board (from two to three), permission for elected directors to be remunerated for their services and permission for the casting of electronic votes at future meetings.

Other key items on the board meeting agenda include:
-          the further development of .au domain name policy,
-          updates on auDA Foundation activities and the status of community geographic domain names such as nsw.au and vic.au
