Melbourne, 19 August 2005 - perth.com.au was Australia’s most sought after commercial geographic domain name according to Chris Disspain, CEO of the .au Domain Administration (auDA).

As a result of a ballot of commercial geographic domain names conducted by auDA during the past two months, auDA received approximately 138 applications from businesses for perth.com.au, the highest number of applications received for any one name.

For privacy reasons, auDA will not be publishing details of who the successful applicants were.

Successful applicants are required to pay a release fee of $825 plus the cost of registering the domain name. They will be contacted over the next couple of weeks by the domain name registrar through whom they lodged their application.

The money raised by the release fees will go towards the launch of community geographic domain names, which was scheduled for later this year. Community geographic domain names will be available to eligible not-for-profit, community-based organisations for registration in eight new second level domain names  - one for each Australian state and territory - vic.au, nsw.au, qld,au, sa.au, wa.au, tas.au, act,au and nt.au.
