auDA has given its consent to the acquisition of Distribute IT’s .au registrar accreditation and customer base by accredited registrar NetRegistry Pty Ltd.
The acquisition was a private transaction between Distribute IT and NetRegistry. As required under the Registrar Agreement, auDA’s consent was requested by the parties prior to finalisation.
NetRegistry has now assumed all customer support for former registrants and resellers of Distribute IT.

auDA is aware of recent security incidents affecting the operations of accredited registrar Distribute IT.
In accordance with their obligations under the Registrar Agreement, the management of Distribute IT notified auDA of the security incidents as soon as they were aware of them, and they have since provided regular updates to auDA on their recovery efforts.
Distribute IT has advised auDA that its hosting services were the target of the attack, and not its domain name services. Distribute IT has also advised auDA that it does not store any credit card data in its databases or logs, and so there has been no compromise to customers’ financial data.
auDA can also confirm that .au registry data has not been compromised as a result of the security attacks on Distribute IT.
Up until last week, Distribute IT was continuing to action domain name renewal and update requests. Distribute IT management have today advised auDA that they are currently unable to provide these services.
auDA has therefore activated its registrar contingency plan, to ensure that affected registrants are able to transfer to a new registrar and make alternative hosting arrangements as soon as possible.
