The auDA Board are pleased to announce the appointment of John Swinson, Partner at King & Wood Mallesons (KWM) as the Chair of the Policy Review Panel (PRP). Mr Swinson was selected from a diverse pool of respondents to the call for Expressions of Interest.

Mr Swinson has over 25 years of experience specialising in intellectual property and technology law. In his role at KWM, he represents and advises clients in a wide range of business fields.

He has litigated a number of leading cases, including matters concerning software patents, copyright in computer programs, copyright in newspaper headlines, trade secret misappropriation by employees, trade mark infringement, trade mark ownership, software piracy, misleading online advertising, domain name cybersquatting and failed computer implementations.

Mr Swinson will meet with the auDA policy team to agree Terms of Reference (ToR) for the panel’s composition, to be followed by a call for Expressions of Interest to join the panel soon. To ensure that auDA achieves a fair balance of stakeholder interests, selection of panellists will be based on the ToR as agreed by the PRP Chair, individual skills, experience and knowledge of the domain name industry.

Those applicants who expressed interested in the Chair role, but were not selected, will automatically be considered for a panel position as part of the next stage. auDA thanks all EOI Chair applicants for their submissions and interest in the Policy Review Panel process.
