RSSVictorian Flood Affected Communities Given a Voice Online
The .au Domain Administration (auDA), the not-for-profit manager of the Domain Name System in Australia, has today released a series of free websites for communities affected by recent flooding throughout Victoria.
This is following the fourteen websites that were created for Queensland flood affected communities last week. auDA hopes that, during such difficult times, these sites will help communities recover, rebuild and heal, by providing fora for:
- Communicating community events and news
- The provision of links to important information (such as: council links, community recovery resources)
- Sharing stories
- Thanking people
auDA put in place a similar program directly after the 2009 Victorian Bushfires, which proved to be valuable in recovery and rebuilding efforts.
The websites that have been created include:
jeparit.vic.au rochester.vic.au kerang.vic.au warracknabeal.vic.au
The websites that have been created are registered using ‘Community Geographic Domain Names’(CGDNs), a world-first initiative launched by auDA in 2006, that reserves names in the format place.state.au for the exclusive use of local communities.
auDA has communicated this initiative to the Mayors and CEOs of Councils across the affected parts of Victoria and relevant disaster and management recovery authorities.
