Chariot Internet breaches transfers policy

auDA has found that Chariot Internet Ltd, a reseller of Melbourne IT, has breached the Transfers Policy (2003-03).

During July 2005, Chariot Internet initiated 19 transfers from TPP Internet to Melbourne IT without obtaining a written request or authorisation from the registrants.

auDA found that the registrants did not receive notice of the transfer because Chariot Internet had entered its own contact email address in the registry database instead of the registrant’s email address.

One of the main principles of the transfers policy is to safeguard the right of registrants to make an informed choice to transfer their domain name to another registrar, even where their domain name is managed by a reseller.

auDA has instructed AusRegistry to reverse the unauthorised transfers back to the original registrar of record.
